Gas and electricity

At least two weeks before moving in, you need to contact one (or more) utility providers to have the gas and electricity put in your name.

Telephone, Internet, television and mobile phone

In France, the main operators are Orange, SFR, Bouygues and Free. They all offer Internet, TV, landline and mobile phone plans. Note that it can sometimes take several weeks to get Internet up and running depending on the location of your home and the technology you choose, so it’s a good idea to start the process as soon as possible.

Home insurance

Tenants are required to take out home insurance. However, owners are not required to do so, unless the property is part of a condominium. This insurance generally covers water damage, theft, fire and natural disasters.
